When in doubt, wear blue.

Have I said that before? I should have. It is, without contest, a truly glorious colour, both on film and in real life. It makes one look alive, vibrant, energetic, FUN. It suits all skintones and hair colours. It's flattering. It stands out. And in a beautiful fabric and cut such as this? Well, it can't be beat.

This season there are loads of brilliant blue pieces to be added to your wardrobe in the form of bags, shoes or clothing. Wear it and watch how your day improves with colour.

Ashley Greene in sheer spots
Tuesday, March 27, 2012 AT 12:09 PM

Ashley Greene has never stood out to me because of her style, but I am completely wrapped in this little spotted dress! Is there a more perfect combination than sheer + spots + slightly stiff fabric? I think not. Put 'em on your wishlist, it's a combo I'll be searching for.

Worn with closed up wedge that are quite man-style, though these particular shoes are fairly ug, they are a fantastic foil to the girliness of the frock.

Well played Ashley Greene, well played.

Trending: Burgundy Bias
Tuesday, March 27, 2012 AT 11:29 AM

Consider burgandy the new Japenese cherry blossom of fashion.

But unlike the blossom blooming on the other side of the world, around about now, burgandy has been coming through more gradually over the past three years, vouching to make its return slowly instead of hitting us full-pelt overnight.

We first saw it spearheaded by beatuy brands in the form of lipstick shades like:

MAC's Chignon

MNY's Mauve-ulous (and several other fig-like shades from their coloursensational range)

Stila's Ecstasy

And then we saw it in Miu Miu shoes! From their infamous bow peep to their more current multi-strap.

This month though, it's both on and off high-street, seeping into the very essence of fashion both here and overseas.

Just last week I bought woolen opaques from Aussie retailer Country Road. The week before that, an oversized knit from Witchery and then some long leather gloves, all proudly oozing rich burgandy.

It's taking over. Not just my wardrobe, but the wardrobes of many, vis-a-vis:

(From top left, clockwise around)

Clemence Poesy

Tilda Swinton

Salma Hayek

Kate Mara

Chloe: Runway - Paris Fashion Week Womenswear Fall/Winter

Victoria Sekrier

Roberta Benteler

I personally can't believe it's taken this long for us to get over those burgandy formal/bridesmaid dresses of the early nineties. Twenty years is an unprecedented 'fashion' sentence, so Karl must have been really upset with the colours movements.

But the cold war on burgandy is now officially over. So you can go fourth and spill your dry red all you want.

How to wear: pastels. Like Katherine Heigl
Friday, March 23, 2012 AT 2:25 PM

What a lovely shot of Katherine Heigl. Dressing in pastels makes you look rather serene, doesn't it? There's definitely something calming about pastels, as opposed to brights which are LOUD and BRASH and BOLD, and for which there is also a place.

But for right now, I'm happy to float along dreamily with KH in these light colours. So easy on the eye.

Salma Hayek wears her pyjamas from Paris to LA
Thursday, March 15, 2012 AT 11:26 AM

Ahhh, the pyjamas trend. This is one of those trends that fashion is telling us to love. And slowly, slowly, the more celebs that wear it, the more normal it becomes.

Like, why WOULDN'T you wear the pyjama trend on a long haul flight, of all places, like lovely Salma Hayek here? How comfortable. How stylish. How comfortably stylish!

I'm not sure I'd wear them to my local RSL (or would I? I might fit in with the old diggers in the pokies room!), but I might want to swan out to a low-key dinner and swish a dirty martini around whilst talking politics through a red-lipsticked mouth. It's somehow glamorous in an old, black & white movie kind of way.

Tracking a hair trend: the ponytail.
Monday, March 12, 2012 AT 12:26 PM

It all started at New York Fashion Week, with ponytails on high rotation at Jason Wu and Calvin Klein.

It then rubbed off onto Gwyneth at the Oscars, and you know that if Gwyneth has picked it up and chosen to wear it to the biggest event of the year, that the ponytail has come of age and is no longer just to be worn to the gym.

Also sporting a pony on the night of nights was Rosie Huntington-Whitely.

It went right through to the runways in London, Milan and Paris, spotted at Giles Deacon, Jil Sander, Herve Leger and Rochas.

And hit a peak by being seen at Chanel. Now you know it's "fashion".

Top hair trend: Blunt bangs, at Hermes
Wednesday, March 07, 2012 AT 5:31 PM

Lining up to go out onto the runway, the models for the Hermes show all have one thing in common: a very blunt fringe.

Would you?

Well, that's up to you. Are you a "hair on face" person? I know I'm not, so this look is totally out for me, which isn't to say I can't admire it on others! If you can function with hair on your forehead then it's a go-er.

Should you?

That's a whole other story. Is it time for an image overhaul? Been stuck in a too-safe hair rut forevs? Then yes, you should.

Could you?

Now this is the question. Blunt bangs suit oval or heart shaped faces. Or basically, if you've got a face shape that's markedly longer than it is wider then you should be able to pull this off.

Off you go ladies, take thee to your hairstylist!

What you want now: Leather pants, like Miranda Kerr and Kristen Stewart
Friday, March 02, 2012 AT 4:58 PM

Like Kristen Stewart's, at Paris Fashion Week. With a button and a zip and a proper fit to them. You can go the leggings route but it's unadvisable to tuck things into leather leggings, so the pants are probably more wearable.

Miranda Kerr was also spotted wearing a pair as she left Sydney aiport this week (leather on a plane? Of course darling, if you're travelling first class you can wear whatever you like!), chugging cute little Flynn along with her.

Heels are a MUST with this look. Leather + flats are okay but leather + heels are kickass. Capiche? Put 'em on your wishlist.

New trend: the leather biker jacket + maxi dress, a la Heidi Klum, Ashley Tisdale and Sarah Jessica Parker
Wednesday, February 29, 2012 AT 2:24 PM

I quite love the look of a cropped leather jacket with a long maxi dress, don't you? Especially when it's blowing in the breeze and I'm barefoot in the sandpit with my child. How fantastic does Heidi look here? I'm copying the look this weekend. Will you?

And I thought Heidi looked good! Ashley Tisdale earns some serious style points in this jersey maxi dress and leather biker, but the best bit has to be the nude booties. If she'd paired another colour with it the outfit would have bombed, but this is a clear winner.

Of course, SJP did it first, pairing her leather with her evening dress during NY Fashion Week. It's an easy entry into the trend.

Which is your fave?
