Hmm.
There is definitely a place for sheer dresses in the history of style, so I'm not bagging out Katy Perry's choice of using it.
It's a statement. It says ha! I have come through a divorce from a very funny, sexy man who starred in the Closing Ceremony of the Olympics and I DON'T CARE ABOUT HIM. Because I can wear sheer dresses and people will take photos of me. So there.
But unlike that very famous moment when Kate Moss wore her sheer dress at a mere 19 (which helped catapult her to mega-style-icon status), it's just not quite as chic, is it?
