If horizontal stripes are the troublesome cousin of the fashion world, then bare-midriffs have to be the evil stepsister. 

Put these two together and you would think you would have all kinds of sartorial disaster. 

Instead, we have Ali Larter (Heroes fame), looking amazingly svelte. 

Here she is at Kiki Dunst's night in the spotlight, the premiere of her film "Bachelorette".

Ali hits two big notes though in all of this rule-breaking. Both of which you will be taking into summer should you so wish:

1. The sleek off-the-shoulder's' 

We are not talking one shoulder, we are talking two. And we are not talking boho-flowy shoulder-offing but instead tight, almost horizontal in neckline shoulder-bearing. 

2.  Wide leg pants

These can do no wrong this summer. Just add chunky heel or flat sandal. No wrong. Ali says so.  

On your marks, get set, LARTER it this summer. Without the midriff. And the stripes...
